Silcock Leisure Group celebrated the 125th anniversary of its carousel last week by holding a heritage talk at the Pier Restaurant featuring operations director Serena Silcock-Prince, signpainter Graham Booth, and vehicle historian Justin Prescott.
Herbert Silcock’s Golden Gallopers was built in 1901 and serves as a much-loved landmark at its current location on the Pier Forecourt, with the historic ride recognised as the UK’s fourth best seaside attraction in the Bucket and Spade List 2023.
“We’re delighted to be celebrating the 125th anniversary of Silcock’s Carousel, an attraction that is so synonymous with Southport,” said Silcock-Prince.
“The Carousel has brought smiles to the faces of so many families over the years – we see so many children coming along with their parents, who enjoyed rides on it when they were children, and also grandparents.”
Silcock’s Stories of Southport took place on 18 September as part of the Heritage Open Days Festival, and included a history of the Silcock family, which has been operating fairs and attractions in Southport since the late 1800s.
This year, Silcock’s Funland and Carousel was also named Southport Entertainment Venue of the Year at the 2026 Your Southport Stars Awards, organised by Southport BID.
