£8.72m Aviktas ride arrives at Pleasure Beach Resort Blackpool

Pleasure Beach Resort Blackpool has taken delivery of its new £8.72m thrill ride Aviktas, which will become the tallest of its kind in the UK when it officially opens in 2026.

Construction of the 138 ft gyro swing began on 10 November, on the site of the former  Bowl-a-Drome and Black Hole building, and is expected to be complete by spring next year.

“This record-breaking attraction will transform both our skyline and the thrill-factor for 2026,” said CEO Amanda Thompson. “Seeing its arrival has been a real moment of pride for everyone here at Pleasure Beach.”

“We see the arrival of Aviktas as a statement of our commitment to creating unforgettable experiences, and keeping Blackpool at the heart of UK tourism.”

Foundations for the ride were laid last month, including the burial of a time capsule containing hundreds of letters from theme park fans, blueprints, and photographs.

“Once complete, Aviktas will send 40 riders soaring 120 degrees skywards, offering sweeping views of the coast and a new spectacle for onlookers along the Promenade,” reported the Gazette.

“Its sheer height is expected to transform Blackpool’s iconic skyline, standing nearly twice as tall as Drayton Manor’s Maelstrom ride, which follows a similar format on a smaller scale.”
