The owner of Fantasy Island on Canvey Island has warned “actions have consequences” after four vandals broke into the site on 20 February and damaged rides.
Footage of the young intruders was captured on CCTV, as they climbed barriers surrounding the park and interfered with ride machinery.
“It was just some youths who got into our funfair and decided to vandalise our property,” owner Suzanne Gray told the Echo. “Canvey is a very tight-knit community and they have come together. They have been able to get the name of one of them.
“It is not the first time this has happened and once they are caught, we will be prosecuting. Of course, we are disappointed. This sort of thing spoils it for all the other children on the island. Now they have been seen on camera and pictured so hopefully they will not do it again. Actions have consequences.”
Grey added the damage would require “costly repairs,” and comes at a frustrating time, when the park is already closed due to flooding.
“We work incredibly hard to provide a safe, fun environment for our community, and it’s extremely disheartening when that’s disrupted by thoughtless behaviour.”
