The operator of Bognor Regis Pier has announced it is undertaking the final stages of a major renovation project, with the arcade and roof terrace being renovated and redecorated in time for the peak summer season. Speaking to the Bognor Regis Observer, operations director Karl Drew told local residents how their support helps the business thrive.
Bognor Regis Pier is currently redecorating its roof terrace and arcade area ahead of the peak summer season, following a year-long investment programme that has seen the renovation of Sheik’s nightclub and the Legends Sports Bar, and the opening of Venue24.
In an interview with the Bognor Regis Observer, operations manager Karl Drew encouraged residents to keep supporting the pier in order to help “develop and maintain” its various attractions, helping boost both the local economy and employment.
“Since June last year we have been slowly renovating the business and the pier, which is no simple task, given the pier is a Grade II listed building,” said Drew. “That’s without the constant battle with the sea and the sea air, but all this comes from the support of everyone using it.”
Speaking on the renovation of the roof terrace, Drew said: “We are refurbishing the tables and chairs, and buying some new ones in. We’re planning a general repair/repaint of the area ready for summer, and we’re going to refurbish the AGC and the over 18s area of the arcade.”
“And don’t worry, we are planning on repainting the pier as well with the Town Force help, once their cherry picker is fixed then we will get that booked back in.”
Drew added that the renovation project comes on top of what the pier owners have invested in general maintenance, “like replacing parts of the steel structure that keeps the Pier standing, replacing all the decking so that it is safe to walk on and keeping up with necessary repairs.”
