Bongo’s Bingo challenges Reform election candidate over name use

Bongo’s Bingo has warned a Glasgow election candidate to stop using its name in campaign materials, citing copyright concerns.

Audrey Dempsey, Reform UK candidate for Easterhouse and Springburn, had promoted a fundraising event described as a “bongo bingo night” at a local chapel hall. The company, which runs popular themed events nationwide, contacted her after becoming aware of the posts.

“It was drawn to our attention last week that Reform candidate Audrey Dempsey had organised a “Bongo Bingo” fundraiser at St Roch’s Chapel in Royston, Glasgow, to take place on Saturday 11th April,” said a spokesperson for the operator. “Bongo’s Bingo did not give permission for Audrey to appropriate our name for her fundraising event and nor do we endorse any views the Reform Party has.”

The candidate later confirmed the fundraiser had been cancelled after the venue withdrew hire amid complaints and fears “there could be riots”.

Dempsey criticised the decision, saying: “Why would somebody be that horrible and that low and nasty.”

Hmmm!
