Bridgend Council unveils its new fair plans for a modern Coney Beach site

Bridgend County Borough Council has unveiled plans for the multi-million pound regeneration of Porthcawl seafront, including the former site of Coney Beach, with a new lido, funfair and mini-golf area all part of the project.

Other ideas under development for the 95 acre site are a caravan site, coastal park, splash pad and a multi-use games area, as well as retail, fitness and leisure facilities and 980 new homes.

“The final Porthcawl Waterfront Regeneration masterplan represents a hugely significant piece of work which has been many years in the making,” said council leader John Spanswick.

“Delivering on its objectives will be a long-term process which will require planning consent, appropriate funding and delivery partners, but huge emphasis has been placed on making sure it remains both credible and realistic.”

The proposal was drawn up in partnership with the Welsh government, and has already been through ten public consultations in the last five years.

“The Lido swimming pool would be located at Salt Lake opposite the marina where it would incorporate a gym, a restaurant, a café and other related facilities. The funfair rides would form part of a new site located at the opposite end of Salt Lake, close to the Aldi food store, which would offer new public events space.”
