Britannia Pier prepares for opening day under “glistening” new domes

Britannia Pier is all geared up for the new season as Joesphs Abbott and Manning kick on with their delivery of new machines, new entrance domes and “a new era”.

Work is progressing on the ambitious redevelopment plans at Britannia Pier, with construction crews currently erecting the two domed towers that will stand either side of the main entrance building.

The project is part of co-owners Joseph Abbott and Joseph Manning’s plans to modernise the attractions and visitor experience at the pier, while “harking back to its glory days at the turn of the 20th Century.”

“The c.1967 entrance building to the pier has been largely dismantled and the veiled bulk of the new entrance building has appeared,” reported the National Piers Society. “Most notable are the two new domes which will form the decorative elements of the front elevation.”

The domed entrance building is the first phase of the redevelopment, with the Eastern Daily Press noting “plans also include more access to the beach and promenade, the removal of an existing single-storey amusements building and the erection of a new enlarged curved roof building.”

Long term programme continues as a ‘new era’ beckons at Britannia Pier

Britannia Pier has taken delivery of new games, redecorated its arcade and added a new digital display screen, as the Great Yarmouth attraction prepares to enter “a brand new era.”

With work continuing on redeveloping the entrance building with covered walkways and two distinctive domes, the pier is set for an “amazing” season.

“As the sun glistens off of our brand new zinc tower domes it’s getting very exciting here at the Britannia pier, as we near the completion of our huge development,” said a spokesperson.

“It’s the start of a brand new era, and an all new Britannia Pier. We cannot wait for you all to see it finished, and as we enter the final stages of the build we will still be open every day over the Easter holidays. A little bit of building work won’t stop the fun here.”
