Buzz Bingo Scunthorpe given notice as premises set to become self-storage unit

Buzz Bingo Scunthorpe has been given six months’ notice to vacate its site on Brigg Road after plans to convert the site into a self-storage unit were approved on appeal.

North Lincolnshire Council had refused the proposals in April, however planning inspectors overturned the decision, prompting concerns over the future of the city’s last bingo hall.

“Our landlord has received permission for a change of use and as such we are seeking a new home in Scunthorpe for the future,” said a Buzz spokesperson. “We are keeping our colleagues informed and have engaged them with the search for a new venue.”

According to the BBC, the site will remain open until a new site can be found, which must occur before 9 April 2026, when the landlord will begin converting the unit.

“The conversion plan was refused by councillors on the grounds of an unacceptable loss of a community facility. The inspector was satisfied it could be viewed as a community facility but added ‘given submitted evidence on commercial viability and no demand for alternative uses, it is viewed as an acceptable loss.’”

“Buzz Bingo had opposed the planning application with the firm and the building’s landlord, Zirconia Trading Limited, disputing the viability of the bingo enterprise at the site.”
