Cain’s Amusements is hoping to expand its presence in Margate with plans for a new AGC in Cliftonville.
After purchasing the premises last year, the company has applied to open a Jackpot Slots venue on Northdown Road where it already operates an AGC under the Cain’s Amusements banner.
In its application, the operator explains that although it was incorporated in 2003, the family business has been trading since the 1890s and is now run by the fifth generation. The company currently operates six AGCs and four FECs across Leysdown-on-Sea, Sheerness, Herne Bay and Margate.
“Cain’s Amusements purchased the premises earlier this year and intends to invest approximately £500,000 in its development; a change of use planning application is currently being processed,” read the application. “Once ready to trade the business will employ 6 people at the shop and contribute to the local and national economy through rates and taxes.”
Cain’s also reassured council planners that the new venue would operate with age verification and with internal and external CCTV that will “enhance the security of the immediate area”.
The licensing hearing will take place on January 6.
