Central Pier confirms repairs in hand after visitor criticises condition of steel structure

The Blackpool Pier Company has reassured visitors that repairs are progressing according to schedule at Central Pier, after a local raised concerns over the attraction’s structural integrity.

Darren Noakes contacted Blackpool Council after seeing what he described as “a totally rusted” crossbeam under the pier, however Central Pier stated it is aware of the fault and in the process of remedying it.

“I was a visitor to Blackpool and was walking under the central pier when I noticed a cross beam totally rusted through and snapped,” said Noakes. “I’m sure this is not meant to be like this and looking all around that area it all looks like it’s about to snap.”

“I emailed Blackpool Council to report it but so far nothing back from them. I sent a photo too.”

Responding to the comments, a spokesperson for the pier said “replacing steel work under the piers is an ongoing requirement and part of our responsibilities.”

“Our contractors have recently been on site at both South and Central Piers to rectify damage that has been caused over the recent storms and high tides, however this item was noted on their recent visit.”

“The piers are built and engineered to absorb a certain amount of loss and damage. We will organise for any loose or broken steel to be removed and replaced as soon as possible.”
