Council approves retro gaming lounge in Chichester city centre

Plans to open a retro gaming lounge in Chichester city centre have been approved after earlier proposals were rejected over noise concerns.

Chichester District Council planning officers have granted permission to convert a former British Heart Foundation into a family-friendly gaming venue. The new lounge will feature classic arcade machines, retro gaming consoles, shuffleboard and air hockey, aimed at both children and adults.

A previous application was refused in December amid concerns from residents about potential noise disturbance and antisocial behaviour in an area already known for its concentration of pubs and nightlife. Following the refusal, the applicant submitted a full noise impact assessment, which council officers deemed satisfactory. The authority also concluded that the proposed opening hours were “reasonable” compared with neighbouring businesses.

The venue is expected to operate from late morning until evening during the week, with extended opening hours on Fridays and Saturdays.
