The August bank holiday is expected to bring a record £4.1 billion boost to the UK economy, with 11.2 million people planning overnight trips across the country.
The surge, predicted by VisitEngland’s latest survey, highlights the lasting appeal of a staycation boom that has moved from strength to strength in recent years. The trend marks a steady rise in domestic travel, up from 11 million in 2024 and 9.7 million in 2023.
“It is very encouraging to see many of us are planning a domestic break for the August bank holiday weekend,” said Patricia Yates, CEO of VisitEngland. “From our globally renowned museums and art galleries to our buzzing food and music scene, from our great pubs to our beautiful coast and countryside, there is a destination to suit all tastes and budgets.”
While affordability, weather and last-minute deals remain deciding factors
for many, the weekend promises to deliver a significant boost to Britain’s tourism sector.
