Driving solo: World of Rides launches single-seat self-drive battery ride for children

The world may be looking a little bit smaller this year as many UK holidaymakers are contemplating spending more holiday time on home shores. And that is likely to make the World of Rides look a lot bigger as it steps up a gear to deliver ‘holiday fun for everyone’ with its self drive battery rides. MD David Robinson talks to Coinslot about its new launch.

“They say that nothing in business is ever certain, but in 2026 one thing will be certain and that is that fewer families than ever will be chancing the dangers and delays of flying abroad for their holidays,” World of Rides’ David Robinson predicted, with a usual degree of caution. “I think people will choose the certainty of enjoying a UK stress-free holiday-staycation instead…hopefully with predicted warm sunny weather too!”

The weather, he knows, is always the great unknown, but British families are hardy folk: give them quality, affordable seaside entertainment and they will come.

And that’s been a consistent focus for World of Rides where the orders for new turnkey battery ride attractions are already increasing as operators prepare to give their increased number of visitors, as Robinson postures, “more fun than they have ever experienced before during their holiday breaks”.

Among the worst kept marketing secrets in seaside circles is that it’s the three to twelve-year-old children who rule the roost as far as holiday entertainment is concerned. “They are still the biggest single influence in choosing a family day out or a longer holiday destination,” he observed. “Battery Rides remain the single most popular pay-to-play children’s rides in any leisure destination or resort. UK operators large and small know that to retain their custom and to keep them returning again and again, Battery Cars are the already proven winners as they are free of any pollutants, are hugely profitable, and can also be easily operated either indoors or outdoors… in order to beat any inclement weather … or to take advantage of the promised finer weather.”

In fairness, you probably don’t need to take a survey to recognise that for younger children, nothing is ever as exciting as being able to drive and control their own fully interactive vehicle.

“They see their parents driving and they want the same kind of experience,” Robinson added, “and providing that the vehicles are not so loud and as fast as to frighten them from ever using them again, then they will keep on returning again and again.”

One key focus over the years has been efforts to reduce or eradicate noise pollution which has become crucial to all UK operators in resorts and parks with overnight accommodation. “It allows parents to get young children to sleep in the early evenings, without the continual noise of petrol engine rides to keep them awake,” Robinson explained.

Now 57 years on from its launch in 1969, World of Rides has launched a smaller and cheaper ride available to fit every location. “They have been designed for all those park and resort site operators who previously never thought that they had enough room available to build a full size Battery Car track, or for all those who already have one, but desperately want something additional for the coming season,” Robinson told Coinslot.

Already commanding one of the largest ranges of ‘Parent & Child’ twin-seat Battery Rides, this new ride is driving solo. “The single seat child-only FUNSIZE Battery Rides range have been especially developed, as up to four vehicles only requires a track size area starting from only 4.5m x 4.5m (15ft x 15ft), and the price of play is normally £1 or £2 for a three minute ride, by coin, token, or cashless.”

And the ride comes with a financial support package. Robinson explained: “In order to help operators fund one or more additional exciting attractions, during a World in financial crisis, we have partnered with industry-leading financial product providers Johnson Reed to provide a hard to beat financial package for UK operators, subject to a free individual quote.”
