Eastbourne Pier was forced to close temporarily last week after a customer spotted damage to the decking and called Coastguard crews to investigate.
The incident occurred on 30 July, and was promptly dealt with by both the Coastguard and the pier management.
“Team tasked to Eastbourne pier yesterday to assess some damage reported by a member of the public,” reported the Coastguard. “Once on scene, teams were deployed to locate and assess the damage safely, the area was cordoned off by our teams then shortly after the pier itself was closed by management.”
“Once stood down we were then re-tasked elsewhere. No further details to follow.”
Speaking on the incident, pier owner Abid Gulzar said the necessary repairs were undertaken “immediately.”
“The Pier was closed at 7.30pm, 30 minutes before its closing time. The repairs were carried out immediately and the Pier was open the next day as normal.”
