Golden Slots submits plans for new King’s Lynn casino

Golden Slots Ltd has submitted plans to open a new Macau Casino Slots venue in King’s Lynn, repurposing a site on Norfolk Street formerly occupied by Cashino.

The plans have already met with nimby opposition, including from Lynn News, which focused its article announcing the plans on the predicted “dismay” from councillors.

“A fifth adult gaming centre could open in King’s Lynn as Macau Casino eyes up Norfolk Street premises,” reported the paper. “The company has applied for a premises licence with West Norfolk Council, and a consultation is running from now until 14 May.”

According to the article, West Norfolk borough councillors last year agreed “to clamp down on gambling companies after becoming ‘dismayed’ at the number of slot machine sites opening.”

In fact though, the numbers are not as dramatic as suggested. King’s Lynn has a population 50,000 – that’s a ratio of 1 AGC per 10,000. Further, King’s Lynn and West Norfolk attracts nearly 11m visitors, 500,000 of whom stay one or more nights – all serviced by an entertainment offering of just 5 AGCs. The council concerns, given these ratios, somehow seems less potent.
