Jimmy Corrigan’s Ltd has submitted plans to North Yorkshire Council to close its Casino Royale amusement arcade on Sandside and reopen the premises as Caffe Royale.
The application proposes that the cafe will prove more of a draw for tourists, with the addition of new windows offering customers views over Scarborough Harbour,
“Sandside and the harbour are an important part of the visitor experience of Scarborough and Sandside is busy for much of the year with visitors enjoying the historic setting of Sandside and the harbour with the Castle Headland above,” states the application.
“Sandside forms part of the Scarborough Conservation Area. The use will complement the retail, food and beverage uses that can be found along Sandside and support the harbourside area’s role as an important tourism draw.”
The planning application comes just one week after Caffe Royale, registered at the same address, applied for a premises licence, including the permission to sell alcohol between 10am and 10.30pm Monday to Sunday.
If approved, new timber frame windows and doors will be added to the front elevation of the ground floor, with the submission adding “all other works involved in the change of use are to the interior of the ground floor unit, although these are minimal, primarily involving the replacement of the cash desk with a servery.”
