Joe Joe Jim’s still going strong after 105 years

The former Fletcher’s Arcade on the outskirts of Birmingham is still going strong after 105 years of operation, with the founder’s great-grandson now running the business as a bar, pinball and music venue.

Featuring several vintage arcade machines, pictures from fairs and sideshows past, bumper cars and one-armed-bandits, Birmingham Live reported that Joe Joe Jim’s still offers “a hub for entertainment” in the Lickey Hills.

“For 100 years, Brummies in the inner city have turned their eyes to the Lickey Hills for an escape from the hustle and bustle of town,” reported the paper.

“In the 1920s, they’d jump on the tram and head out for a staycation holiday to the beautiful green destination, stopping after strolls in the woods to spend a few coppers at the old arcade that, to this day, is a hub for entertainment.”

Renamed Joe Joe Jim’s after the three generations that ran the venue from 1920 until the mid-1990s, the bar is now run by the original founder’s great grandson Joe Fletcher.

“Instead of focusing on one arm bandits and merry-go-rounds like his dad, grandad and great-grandad, he’s made the venue one of the best places in the region to listen to live music – there’s gigs on all the time in the brilliant space at the foot of the Lickeys.”
