After finding success in Manchester and Newcastle, LOL Bingo has announced Southport will be its third UK venue, with plans for a bingo and slots venue on Lord Street currently being considered by Sefton Council.
Michael Smith has confirmed LOL Bingo’s much-anticipated third venue will be located in Southport, with the businessman highlighting his own fond memories of the town as being behind the decision.
And boy does the proud seaside resort need an LOL moment currently.
Plans for the new premises are now being considered by Sefton Council, and if approved would see the former Lavish furniture unit on Lord Street transformed into a luxury bingo and slots lounge.
“This will be our third luxury bingo lounge, with two currently trading in Manchester (Harpurhey) and Newcastle (Wallsend,)” Smith told councillors. “We have chosen the venue in Southport for a number of reasons. Firstly, both of the bingo clubs in the town have closed, the town has therefore lost a valuable community asset.”
“Secondly, LOL Bingo are strong supporters of a high street revival – we fit out to a high standard. Thirdly, the site is the correct size and the location very desirable.”
The 2,100 sq ft site is located on one of the main access routes between Southport town centre and King’s Gardens, as well as the pier and beach, and would create eight new full and part time jobs, with staff recruited locally.
“On a personal note, my father grew up in Southport,” added Smith. “Following my father’s passing my mother would regularly take us to Southport and I can still remember spending time on Lord Street, particularly the busy cafes and independent shops.”
“We pride ourselves on supporting the local area, we are great neighbours, we try (where possible) to recruit locally, and all staff will be recruited from Southport postcodes. Importantly, we work to create a community feel, and give people a place to meet friends and make new ones.”
