Luxury Leisure submits licence application for new Barrow venue

One month after receiving change of use planning approval, Luxury Leisure has applied to Westmorland and Furness Council for an AGC licence for its new Admiral venue in Barrow.

If the submission is approved, the former ShoeZone premises on Dalton Road would be reopened as a gaming centre, operating from 7am to 2am and creating nine jobs in the area.

“According to the applicant the proposed gaming centre would generate additional footfall in the town centre with survey data and evidence from other Admiral-operated sites suggesting that visits contribute to the success of other surrounding retailers through linked trips,” reported The Mail.

Speaking during the planning meeting in January, councillor Frank Cassidy said: “I think we do want to see our high streets brightened up by having premises like this brought to life.”

“My question would be; are there any measures within the gaming centre to keep an eye on punters to make sure they don’t lose too much money?”

In response, Luxury Leisure’s agent Fraser Tinsley detailed the safety and customer protection procedures in operation at all 280 Admiral venues across the country, including CCTV, extensive staff training, and established protocols to refuse service.

The licence is currently undergoing public consultation.
