Mecca Bingo has confirmed the closure of its hall at the Gaumont Theatre in Taunton, despite a local campaign to save the venue attracting thousands of supporters.

The Corporation Street site has served as the town’s sole bingo hall for more than 20 years, however Mecca has now officially ended its tenure at the former theatre.

“From all current and past managers and team members, we would just like to say a massive thank you to every single one of you for visiting us over all these years,” said a spokesperson for the venue.

“This club has become a second home to so many, and so many of you have felt like family members, not customers. We have celebrated with you and had some losses through the years, but we went through it all together.”

The Gaumont Palace Community Trust was formed in 2024 to ensure the future of the venue, with a petition calling for it to be saved as a venue garnering 2,800 signatures.
