Mecca Bingo has announced it will close its club on Flat Street in Sheffield this weekend, after 55 years serving the local bingo community.
The former Odeon Cinema was built in 1956 and reopened as the Top Rank Bingo Club in 1971, but has “not been commercially viable for some time.”
“There are considerable repairs and maintenance challenges which make it challenging for the venue to remain in operation,” said a spokesperson. “Therefore, we are currently proposing that Sunday 7 June would be Mecca Sheffield’s final day of trading.”
“This proposal is not one we have put forward lightly – we are currently in consultation with our colleagues and will advise our team and our customers once a final decision is reached.”
Mecca added the decision had been made “with a heavy heart.”
