Mecca Bingo Leeds Mayfair has closed suddenly after 30 years of operation, with staff confirming the announcement on social media  just four days before the venue was shuttered.

The bingo hall was well-positioned in the city centre, near the Kirkgate Market, and bingo fans will now have to travel 3.5 miles further out to the closest Mecca facility.

“Mecca Leeds Mayfair is now closed,” said a spokesperson. “We’ve had an amazing 30 years as part of the incredible local community and want to thank every single one of you for your loyalty and support!”

“There’s no need to worry about your Mecca Bingo journey coming to an end, our sister club in Crossgates is ready and waiting to welcome you.”

The announcement was met with disappointment by long-standing customers. While some were concerned at the distance to their alternative Mecca offering, many also spoke of their “incredible memories” of the Mayfair club.
