MERKUR UK has brought together team members and machine players to help raise funds and identify the beneficiaries of its progressive and wide-ranging charitable activities. So far, an amazing 200 organisations have used the funds to help change lives.
MERKUR UK has celebrated a major landmark with the community group Born Everywhere: Made in Newham becoming the 200th good cause or charity to receive an award under the company’s ground-breaking MERKUR Community and Initiative schemes.
A collaboration between the company, its’ team members and high street customers MERKUR Initiative provides financial assistance to organisations which have been nominated by colleagues and which reflect personal connections and suggestions from customers.
MERKUR Community, which was launched at the beginning of 2024, pro-actively identifies non-profit organisations, clubs and events in the areas where MERKUR operates and where it can help make a positive impact on the lives of local residents.
Reflecting on the Awards Tony Boulton, Director of Public and Political Relations at MERKUR UK said: “Amongst many others the groups that we have been proud to help support include a swimming pool used by people with special needs, an organisation which provides Tai Chi courses for adults with long-term physical and mental health conditions, a Sunderland-based community kitchen for women survivors of domestic abuse alongside sports clubs which deliver rugby, football, netball and running activities to the community. The funding that we have been able to provide has been allocated towards the purchase of new kit and equipment, venue hire costs and providing subsidised places.
“All of the 46 charities that we have supported have been nominated by team members and our customers based on their lived experience. They include Bowel Cancer UK, Prostate Cancer UK, The Stroke Association, Age UK, Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children, the RSPCA and the RNLI.”
He added: “MERKUR UK’s philosophy is to demonstrate how it is perfectly possible to be both a successful commercial enterprise and a good corporate citizen helping those in society who through no fault of their own face difficult and challenging circumstances.”
