More than a stop-gap: MERKUR UK employment data demonstrates how gaming is becoming a career of choice

New employment data from MERKUR UK illustrates how the gaming entertainment sector is shifting the emphasis from job to career path, with over 20 percent of its 3,000-strong workforce celebrating five or more years of service.

The gaming entertainment sector is a significant source of employment for workers up and down the country, according to the latest data-set of employees produced by MERKUR UK.

The company, whose brands include MERKUR Slots, Blueprint Operations and Regal Gaming Technologies , boasts a UK work force totalling 3,000 based in over 170 towns and cities. The industry’s growing reputation for providing a rewarding career path has been underlined with confirmation that 21 percent of MERKUR UK employees have been with the company for at least 5-years, with 11 percent serving for more than a decade and 3 percent – 90 individuals – celebrating in excess of 20-years-service.

Expanding on the data, Tony Boulton, MERKUR UK’s Director of Public and Political Relations said: “Historically, I think our sector was regarded as providing short-term job opportunities. Although the industry still provides the flexibility that some workers want, in a contemporary context we are also providing individuals with career path opportunities supported by a commitment to training and advancing personal and professional development.

“Increasingly, working in the gaming industry is being seen as an exciting opportunity to build a successful career and not just as a stop-gap. As a consequence, MERKUR UK has extended the recruitment net and is attracting a broad community of talented individuals.

“From a business perspective such a structural shift drastically lowers staff turnover, adds to the organisational knowledge bank, drives innovation and attracts premium talent. A career-centric business also leads to a highly adaptable workforce that can quickly pivot as new technologies emerge. All of this serves to raise the bar, improve standards and enhance the industry’s reputation as a key component of the leisure economy.”
