Charnwood Borough Council has approved plans submitted by Playland Casino Slots to open a 24-hour bingo and gaming venue in Loughborough town centre, with the business set to enhance the area’s “day and night time economy.”
Located on Market Place, the new venue will bring a former takeaway unit which has remained vacant for ten months back into practical use, creating six part-time and six full-time jobs.
The Leicester Mercury reported: “Ruling on the change of use application, planning officers at CBC said the new use would ‘contribute to the full occupation of units within the town centre’ by bringing a vacant ground floor back into use, and would also ‘add to the day and night time economy.’”
Though the change of use was approved, councillors rejected a separate application regarding the venues signage, dismissing the proposed hoarding as “unduly prominent and incongruous.”
The Mercury added that Playland “is also seeking a bingo licence from the local authority which will be decided separately.”
“No details have been given on the type of machines or games set to be offered at the venue.”
