New Platform: Lane7 acquires iconic venue in “pounding heart of central Glasgow”

Lane7 has acquired Platform, a heritage event space in the arches beneath Glasgow Central railway station, with the 35,000 sq ft venue offering “huge potential” for the aspirational bowling and entertainment company.

Lane7 has announced the acquisition of Platform, a 35,000 sq ft hospitality venue built in the arches beneath Glasgow Central railway station, described as one of the city’s “most high-profile event spaces.”

The Argyle Street site features six interconnected halls with vaulted brick ceilings dating back to 1879, and was first opened as a nightclub in the 1990s before becoming a multipurpose event facility in 2018.

“You’d be hard-pushed to find anyone in Glasgow and the surrounding areas who hasn’t attended an event at Platform or at its predecessor The Arches,” said Lane7 MD Gavin Hughes. “It’s a stalwart of the Glasgow cultural scene and we’re honoured to have secured an agreement with the Platform team.”

“We’ve identified huge potential for Platform, its space, and its location in the pounding heart of central Glasgow. It’s a perfect addition to our portfolio of entertainment and hospitality spaces across Scotland, the UK and further afield.”

Lane7 confirmed existing bookings for the rest of the year will be honoured, and though Hughes has not yet announced the full plan for the site, a spokesperson for Platform welcomed the sale as beneficial for both the building and the city.

“We’re handing over a much-loved space to the perfect new owners. The Lane7 Group is an organisation with soul. It has ambition and creativity and operates with integrity.”

“We know they’ll have some very cool plans to make sure the venue remains a long-term fixture in the Glaswegian hospitality and night-time scene.”
