Safer Gambling Week ‘24 sparked record use of safer gambling tools

New data has revealed that Safer Gambling Week 2024, promoted by operators in all sectors across the country, had a significant impact on the use of safer gambling tools, with safer gambling messages reaching more than 7 million Brits.

Safer Gambling Week 2024 prompted a record surge in the use of safer gambling tools, according to new data.

During the campaign, which ran from 18 to 24 November, more than 1.5 million unique accounts accessed a safer gambling tool – representing a 22 percent rise from the previous year. Additionally, deposit limit settings rose by 14 percent, with nearly half of users setting one for the first time.

The campaign delivered an impressive 7.2 million safer gambling messages to players – a 10 percent increase on 2023. Social media engagement also soared, with over 60 million impressions across X, Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram, marking a 21 percent year-on-year rise.

“Safer Gambling Week has proved its worth once again by making a real impact encouraging even more punters to make the most of the broad range of safer gambling tools only available in the regulated sector,” said BGC CEO Grainne Hurst.

The initiative garnered support from across the political spectrum, including Baroness Twycross, Stuart Andrew, and Louie French. It was also backed by the Gambling Commission and Chief Executive Andrew Rhodes.

Premier League clubs such as Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa and Southampton helped spread the message, while over 500,000 visited the campaign website.

Each month, 22.5 million adults in Britain participate in some form of gambling, though the NHS estimates just 0.4 percent are problem gamblers.
