Spelthorne Borough Council considers bingo hall for Staines high street

A former NatWest bank in Staines could be transformed into a new bingo hall if Spelthorne Borough Council approves plans submitted by Sunni-Ed Ltd this week.

The proposal relates to the ground floor unit of the High Street property, which could be refitted with seating for 81 players, a customer service desk and five toilets.

“A bingo hall in place of a vacant bank will add to the vitality and viability of the town centre by trading seven days a week,” states the submission.

“Changing the use of the site will not reduce the retail offer and will benefit the centre by increasing footfall.”

Reporting on the submission, Surrey World wrote “the upper floors of the end-terrace building – once used as offices and staff accommodation – would not be affected.”

“Noise insulation could also be installed if the upper floors were later converted into residential accommodation.”

Spelthorne Council is expected to make a decision later this year.
