Stonegate to cut 150 jobs as managed estate shrinks

The Stonegate Group has announced plans to cut 150 jobs across its head office over the next month, following the reduction of its managed estate.

The pub operator is currently working with restructuring specialist AlixPartners to streamline its administrative team, as rising employment costs begin to bite.

“Over the past two years, the size of our managed estate has decreased, while our Pub Partners and Craft Union divisions have grown, necessitating a smaller central support function,” a spokesperson told the Morning Advertiser.

“This, combined with rising costs, particularly after the recent budget, means we must reorganise our support functions to reflect the shape of our business today. We recognise that this is a difficult time and we are committed to supporting our colleagues with care and fairness as we consult with the business on the proposed changes.”

Stonegate operates 4,370 pubs across the UK, 2,735 are leased and tenanted and approximately 500 of which are managed directly by the company.

According to the Telegraph, no jobs at Stonegate’s pubs and bars will be affected by the cuts, however the reduction comes just two years after the company announced 250 redundancies across its estate.
