Allwyn is to launch the National Lottery’s first new game since its inception this year, offering a UK-specific version of the £1bn Powerball jackpot in partnership with America’s Multi-State Lottery Association.
The draw will be open to players paying £4 per line, while updates to the Lottery’s traditional procedure mean players will be given the chance to win twice for every £2 ticket through a two-round draw, launching this June.
“We are delivering on our promise to bring more games, more entertainment and more innovation to The National Lottery,” said Allwyn CEO Andria Vidler. “By offering a wide range of complementary games, we’re ensuring there is something for everyone – returning the magic, building our player base and making sure The National Lottery remains part of the national conversation.”
“This will raise more money for good causes, helping us reach our goal of doubling weekly returns to good causes from £30m to £60m by 2034, with £33m a week currently raised.”
The new games are expected to more than double the number of annual Lotto millionaires from 140 to 345, however many operators will raise legitimate questions over why the UK Gambling Commission appears so keen to back innovation and modernity in one arm of the sector, while opposing the same ambitions for land-based amusements and gaming.
