As Universal Destinations and Experiences closes the two month consultation period on plans for its Bedford theme park, the operator has maintained its plans to stay open year-round.
Though the majority of UK attractions including Legoland and Alton Towers close outside of the summer season, Universal intends to keep the 600-acre resort open daily between 7am and 11pm.
“Universal has proposed the park will open late for 60 days of the year for ‘Halloween Horror Nights,’ five days a year at holiday operating hours and ‘special Events’ 30 days of the year,” reported the BBC.
“Ampthill Town Council raised concerns about noise and light pollution, especially from firework and drone displays, but the parks documents downplay the potential disturbances.
The firm’s plans say regular firework displays are not part of the park’s day-to-day operations and will take place no more than ten times a year.”
The documents state that five of these displays are likely to take place on Bonfire Night, Chinese New Year, Diwali and New Year’s Eve.
In terms of employment, Universal added it expects to create 8,050 jobs in its opening year, and 12,465 over the next twenty years, including 55 yearly apprenticeships in partnership with local colleges.
