Fantasy Island in Weymouth has been purchased by neighbouring tourism operator the Waterside Holiday Group, with plans now in place to undertake a full re brand of the site, which has been owned by the Simmons family for 40 years.

Weymouth -based holiday park operator Waterside Holiday Group has purchased neighbouring fun park Fantasy Island, with plans already underway to “breathe new life”into the attraction with a full re brand and new rides. 

The seafront site in Bowleaze Cove has been owned and operated by the Simmons family for 40 years,and includes an arcade, indoor soft play area, bumper cars,carousel, a Ferris wheel, drop tower and the Sunset Bar and Restaurant.

“We are incredibly excited to welcome Fantasy Island and the Sunset Bar to the Waterside family,” said Waterside CEO Dave Bennett. “As a family business that has been rooted in this community for over six decades, it’s a fantastic opportunity to expand our offerings while preserving the unique charm of Fantasy Island.”

“We’re committed to creating memorable experiences for families, and we look forward to breathing new life into the fairground and restaurant as we prepare for a grand reopening in March 2025.”

Fantasy Island hosts 13 rides which all cater to families, and Waterside will aim to “blend the nostalgia of the fairground”with a series of “modern updates,” which will create 15new roles and ensure continued employment for all current staff members.

“Securing the valuable area east of the river on Bowleaze Cove beach also promises future growth potential, building on the success of Waterside’s offerings in the South side area near Bowleaze Cove.”

“This is yet another step forward in the company’s growth strategy, which places a premium on investing in local facilities and supporting Dorset’s dynamic tourism industry.”

As part of the growth strategy,Waterside stated the park will be the beneficiary of “continuous investment,” with work underway on delivering a new logo and website ahead of the grand reopening in March.
