Webber’s Leisure has submitted plans to Cheshire West and Chester Council to open a new AGC in Chester, revitalising a unit which “does not easily lend itself” to retail.
If approved, the 4,900 sq ft former Lambretta store on Northgate Street would become a sister venue to Webber’s existing site on Frodsham Street.
“The proposed change of use of the property to a main town centre use will serve to bring a vacant unit back into a beneficial and viable use to support and sustain the vitality and viability of primary shopping area in Chester city centre, whilst creating new employment opportunities,” said Grimster Planning, on Webber’s behalf.
Grimster also noted that the unit has been extensively marketed online, but “the number of enquiries has been limited,” due to a small frontage and limited accessibility, as well as the promise of the new Northgate Scheme.
“Planners say many retailers are waiting on [the Northgate Scheme] to see if new, modern premises become available in the city centre,” reported the Chester Standard. “However, they say these limitations would not impact an adult gaming centre.”
“If approved, the gaming centre is expected to create three full-time and three part-time jobs.”
