Plans have been submitted to convert the upper two floors of a former fabric shop in Southampton into a new arcade, with the ground floor retained as a retail unit.
Plans for the Legend Arcade are currently being considered by Southampton City Council, and would potentially include 4,800 sq ft of gaming space.
“The Legend Arcade is set to take over Fabric Land, which has now permanently closed after trading in Southampton for 38 years,” local media reported. “A change of use application has now been lodged to the council, looking to transform the upper floors into an arcade while retaining shop space on the ground floor.”
“Alterations to the shop front will also be made, replacing the existing front with ‘an aluminium fascia board and facade with LED tube lighting.’”
Fabric Land closed on 17 August, and the new arcade would bring the unit back into use between 11am and 8.30pm every day.
“While it’s sad to see the end of Fabric Land in Southampton this new proposal looks great,” said a comment posted on the Southern Daily Echo article. “Something new and unique and a reason to actually visit the area.”
