Adventure Island has officially opened for its 50th anniversary season, with executive chair Philip Miller telling customers the past half century has “gone in the blink of an eye.”
The park has added a series of new stalls, kiosks and attractions for 2026, and threw open its gates on 14 February with a special celebratory offer for customers.
“Here we are at the beginning of the 2026 season,” Miller told followers via Facebook. “It’s been a long winter, and an expensive one. We spent a damn fortune trying to get all the improvements on the go, and despite what the government do to us, we still managed to keep investing, and keep the business rolling.”
“We’re lucky. We’ve got a nice, bright sunny day, and Southend is the warmest, driest place in the UK, we’re well known for that. We’re expecting a good day for business.”
The winter maintenance period saw rides undergo strip downs, non-destructive testing, and inspections from engineers, with ride operators now “getting back into the rhythm” of a summer season.
Adventure Island also spent £30,000 resurfacing the floor of the indoor amusements area, while enlarging the donut and milkshake kiosk, and adding new outdoor stalls.
“In recognition of our 50th year, our golden anniversary, we’re going to freeze our Annual Pass prices at £50. 50 years of fun… and we’re only just getting started.”
