“Anyone involved should be proud”:Showmen praise representation in BBC Scotland’s new Showpeople documentary

Showmen have praised the “first class interviews” and “extremely positive” representation of the community in the new documentary Showpeople: Licensed to Thrill, produced by BBC Scotland and available to watch in iPlayer.

Showmen across Scotland and the UK have hailed the recent BBC documentary Showpeople: Licensed to Thrill as “very positive” representation of the community, with funfair veterans stating the six-part broadcast is “a credit to all involved.”

The series follows members of the Showmen’s Guild, Wilmot’s Attractions, and Horne’s Pleasure Fairs among others as they navigate the 2024 season, offering “a very good insight” into the traditions, triumphs and challenges of the business.

“What a wonderful portrayal of the business,” said Steve Smith. “Anyone involved in the filming of the series should be proud, well done all. I think the public will see a very different side that they may not have considered before, and appreciate the commitment to what’s involved on a day to day basis.”

David Wallis added that Showpeople is “the best program about Showmen I have ever seen. First class interviews, the very best of equipment, and all the yards looked immaculate. Well done to the producers and Showmen.”

John Marshall agreed, adding the documentary provides “a very good insight. It really shows the Showmen in an extremely positive and good light, no negatives.”

“Very enjoyable to watch and was also good to see the family element shining through, and even the engineering aspect of Raecher Hiscoe fabricating the machines to Charlie Horne out fitting a new exhaust on the lorry. Well worth the watch.”

“Watched every episode last night,” said Thomas Henry Botton. “A credit to all involved, very good.”

“Watched and loved it,” added Will Shorter. “I’m hoping we get a series two. Tells a great story of the history and how things are developing for the show people of the future.”
