Bacta’s Joseph Cullis welcomes Conservative Party roundtable initiative

Bacta’s political engagement programme continues at pace with both President John Bollom and Vice-President Joseph Cullis part of the trade association delegation invited by Shadow DCMS Secretary of State, Stuart Andrew MP and Shadow Minister for Sport, Gambling and Civil Society, Louie French MP to discuss the future of the sector and in particular how to balance economic growth with consumer protection.

“An invaluable opportunity to continue Bacta’s dialogue with distinguished parliamentarians and explain our position across a range of issues including the key regulatory and compliance challenges facing members, the economic contributions made by the land based gambling entertainment sector and the importance of industry/government collaboration” is how Bacta Vice-President Joseph Cullis described the roundtable discussion held in Westminster and hosted by the Shadow DCMS Secretary of State, Stuart Andrew MP and Shadow Minister for Sport, Gambling and Civil Society, Louie French MP.

The Bacta team comprising President John Bollom, Vice President Joseph Cullis, National Council Member and Chair of Bacta’s Social Responsibility Committee Elizabeth Speed and Public Affairs Advisor Dane Bainbridge spent an hour in the roundtable meeting which was held in The Shadow Cabinet Room, April 1st.

The initiative brought together key stakeholders from the gambling industry to discuss the future of the sector with a focus on balancing economic growth with consumer protection and social responsibility. 

Bacta was one of three trade bodies present alongside The Betting and Gaming Council and the Gambling Business Group. Major brands at the roundtable included UK Totes Group, The National Lottery, Flutter, Entain, The Rank Group, Hippodrome Casino and Star Sports.

Vice President, Joseph Cullis said: “Bacta is committed to working with legislators of all parties to get our member’s priorities, particularly the White Paper reforms, across the line.

“It was assuring to know that both Shadow DCMS Secretary of State, Stuart Andrew MP and Shadow Gambling Minister, Louie French MP are keen to work with industry partners to be a constructive opposition and I look forward to developing this partnership even further going forward.”
