The British Beer and Pub Association attended Parliament on 7 January to gather support from MPs for the Licensing Hours Extensions Bill.
The draft legislation aims to cut red tape and make it easier for pubs to stay open for longer during moments of “national significance.”
“The Bill, previously championed by the BBPA in the last Parliament, would give the Government the ability to change pub opening hours when MPs are back in their constituencies,” said a spokesperson.
“By allowing them to open earlier and close later through this simplified process, pubs can act as hubs of celebration during major events like football finals without facing the burdens of extra paperwork and admin fees.”
The Home Office currently has the power to relax licensing hours during national events such as royal weddings and birthdays, and football tournaments.
Most recently, pubs were given permission to stay open until 1am during the July semi-final stages of the 2024 Euros.
