From 1 August, some of Blackpool’s most beloved attractions – including The Blackpool Tower and Madame Tussauds – will be brought under local management for the first time in more than a decade.
The change comes as part of a major shift in how the seaside resort manages its tourism offering. The attractions will now be operated by Blackpool Tourism Limited, a newly established, council-owned company which also runs Sandcastle Waterpark and the upcoming Showtown museum.
“This move marks an exciting step forward in shaping the future of tourism in the resort,” a spokesperson said.
The popular experiences will remain unchanged, though greater emphasis will be placed on celebrating Blackpool’s unique identity and cultural heritage. The Dungeons and Madame Tussauds will continue to operate under their global brand names, through a new franchise agreement – the first of its kind in the UK.
The initiative aims to streamline the visitor experience, create new local employment opportunities, and ensure tourism revenues are reinvested in the town.
“This change won’t affect any current bookings and all attractions will continue to operate as normal throughout the summer season and beyond,” the statement added. “There’s a proud history behind these venues – and now, an exciting new future too, shaped by the people who know Blackpool best.”
