Blackpool Pleasure Beach opened late for solar eclipse

Pleasure Beach Resort in Blackpool has announced it will remain open until 8pm on 12 August to allow visitors to view “one of the biggest solar eclipses in recent history.”

The seafront attraction will offer all guests free protective glasses, as well as setting up a special viewing area on the park’s overpass, beside Wallace and Gromit’s Thrill-O-Matic.

“Eclipses of this kind are a rarity, so we want to give our guests a truly unique experience to remember the occasion by,” said CEO Amanda Thompson.

“Few places can offer this experience surrounded by so much excitement, so we’d love for all guests to join us on our overpass and celebrate the special occasion together.”

The eclipse is expected to begin at 6pm, and reach its peak at 7pm, with the park handing out 1,000 glasses to help guests get the best view.
