Britannia Pier has unveiled the “final piece” in the first stage of its £1.8m redevelopment project, with an eight metre wide digital screen now installed on the pier frontage.
Flanked by the attraction’s two new illuminated towers, the screen will be used to advertise the pier’s programme of live comedy and music, as well as events and offers.
“It was the final piece of this stage of the development, and we are so glad it’s done, having worked so hard on the project,” co-owner Cherise Abbott told The Mercury.
“Us owners, along with the council and the conservation officers, have all worked hard as a team to complete the final design so it could look in a way that everybody was happy with. We are pleased with the result, it has finished off the front of the pier, and it looks amazing.”
The screen was manufactured by One Digital, which is also responsible for Bournemouth Pier’s digital billboard, with Abbott adding: “It might take some getting used to from the old 1970s style lettering and posters on the front, but it was important to improve and modernise the pier.”
Further modernisation will take place this winter at the head of the pier, including a renovation of the Pier Tavern, and adjoining kiosks.
