Chuck E. Cheese eyes UK as “a key target market”

American fast food and entertainment chain Chuck E. Cheese has revealed a list of six cities it believes could be the right location to launch the brand in the UK, with Wright Property leading the hunt for potential franchise partners.

Chuck E. Cheese, the ubiquitous American family fast food and entertainment venue, has announced its intention to enter the UK, with Wright Property chosen to oversee the brand’s entry into what it describes as “a key target market.”

Boasting 621 restaurants already across the globe, the company is well-placed to hit the ground running, with its reputation as the “largest kids arcade in the world” likely to prove an attractive proposition for retail and leisure landlords.

“We are actively expanding the Chuck E. Cheese brand internationally, with Europe, including the UK, as a key target market,” said a spokesperson.

“While there is nothing specific to announce currently, we are excited to see our intellectual property resonate globally as we continue to gauge interest from potential franchise partners worldwide.”

The Chuck E. Cheese chain was founded in 1977, and as well as serving family-favourite fare such as pizza, chicken wings and chips, each restaurant also includes an arcade kitted out with bowling, basketball and console games, plus live shows and kiddie rides.

Regarding its ambitions for the UK, locations of interest currently include Birmingham, Bristol, Glasgow, Leeds, Manchester, and Milton Keynes.

According to the Metro, “the group will be looking to open in areas that are particularly popular with families, where there are more than 25,000 under-12s located within a 20-minute drive from the space.”

“These could be within shopping centres, retail parks, or leisure parks that have ample parking and the brand will be looking for a unit that ranges between 10,760 sq ft and 16,145 sq ft in size, with an eaves height of at least 13.1 feet.”
