Operational managers from across Clacton Pier attended a safer gambling session led by Bacta’s David Miller this week, as the pier works to equip all staff with the tools required to support customers experiencing problems.
Staff at Clacton Pier took part in a safer gambling training session on 3 March, with operational managers from across the business taught how to provide vital support to customers by Bacta membership support officer David Miller.
The session was attended by 15 employees who are now better equipped to assist players by spotting potential behavioural warning signs, while being empowered to intervene if they feel an individual is experiencing problems.
“We want everyone who comes on the pier to be able to enjoy a fun and safe entertainment experience,” said pier GM Harry Peek. “The training would normally be for those specifically working in the arcades but we have extended to all operational managers for the first time. They will have the awareness of what to look out for and how to step in.”
The training means managers are now equipped to help customers to gamble responsibly through educational information, as well as to access support organisations if required.
Peek added the session was part of an ongoing commitment to providing learning and development opportunities for pier staff, which has become “a significant priority in recent years.”
“We are determined to provide the best we can for our employees. Bacta, which helps fund and is a leading participant in the national Safer Gambling Week was the ideal partner for this particular session.”
Speaking after the training, Miller said “it is really good that Clacton Pier has taken our training on board. We are here to provide advice to all our members and would encourage others in the industry to join so they can benefit from it.”
