Clevedon Pier honours Liam and One Direction connection

Clevedon Pier has unveiled a new plaque celebrating its unusual role in pop culture history, reaffirming its status as a key visitor attraction.

The plaque, honouring One Direction’s Liam Payne, highlights the pier’s connection to the band, who filmed their 2014 music video for “You & I” there.

Payne passed away aged just 31 after falling from a balcony in Argentina last October.

The tribute, which includes lyrics from One Direction’s song “Walking in the Wind”, was installed alongside an earlier marker commemorating the 2014 video shoot.

“The beautiful plaque is inscribed with lyrics from one of Liam’s favourite songs,” a spokesperson for Clevedon Pier said in a statement. “We thought it was fitting that the Pier paid tribute to Liam’s life due to his visit with One Direction many years ago.”

Since its unveiling, the plaque has drawn significant attention, with fans travelling to the pier to see the site.

“I have a tattoo of this quote. I feel a connection with Liam and this place now, I need to visit it,” said Natalia Rybka from Poznan, Poland in a Facebook post.
