Conservatives launch DCMS Policy Renewal Programme

The Conservative Party has launched a new Policy Renewal Programme focused on culture, media and sport, aiming to shape a forward-looking strategy rooted in grassroots engagement and traditional Conservative values.

While there was no specific mention of gambling, Shadow Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, Stuart Andrew MP explained that the programme is designed to develop fresh policies in close collaboration with sector leaders across the UK.

“At the very core of our nation lies a vibrant cultural fabric. Culture, media, and sport are important parts of our national identity,” said Andrew. “This is not a top-down approach, it is a bottom-up renewal, driven by the wisdom of those working in these sectors as well as our members.”

The policy drive places emphasis on freedom of speech, artistic expression, and wider access to public funding – not just for national institutions but also for smaller, local cultural hubs. The party also criticised Labour’s National Insurance “Jobs Tax”, claiming it harms already-stretched creative and charitable sectors.

Further consultations and roundtable discussions with stakeholders from tourism, heritage, and the voluntary sector are ongoing. Members and industry figures are invited to submit ideas via Kemi Badenoch’s wider Policy Renewal Programme.
