Brean Theme Park has entered liquidation after more than 40 years on the Somerset coast, with Hazlewoods LLP appointed on 28 January to oversee the company’s winding up process.
The park has been a seaside staple in Brean since the 1970s, however the ongoing use of the nearby Pontins holiday park to house 900 workers on the Hinkley Point C site has undercut vital tourist trade.
“Plans to build rides were launched in the 1970s, and the park has become a favourite for holidaymakers from surrounding areas such as Gloucestershire and Bristol,” reported National World. “The theme park has not shared a public statement on the move.”
“No details of a permanent or temporary closure have been announced. However, on the theme park’s website it shows it as closed for upcoming days.”
In January last year, Discover Brean reported revenue for local businesses was down 30 to 50 percent “because of the lack of footfall coming from the Pontins site,” with the closure having a “big detrimental impact” on the town.
Brean Theme Park leases land from Unity Holidays, however a spokesperson for the company said “anything that may or may not be happening to the theme park does not and will not affect Unity Holidays, or our park in Brean (Unity Beach).”
“We continue to operate as normal.”
