Engaging with and earning the trust of the people who make a business tick can be a difficult task but the leadership team at Game Nation has introduced a method which has its roots in the past as a way of inspiring the future.
Mark Jepp CEO at High Street AGC Retailer Game Nation has introduced a new method of communicating throughout the business drawing on an initiative widely used by US politicians and which has its roots in early New England communities.
The Town Hall concept, whereby residents attended an open meeting to discuss the broadest possible sweep of community-wide issues originated in the 17th century and is now inspiring modern corporate gatherings.
Explaining and expanding on the concept Mark Jepp said: “We will be running a minimum of six Game Nation Town Hall meetings a year.
They are live Teams events connecting our 40+ venues and the central team involving upwards of 80 employees.”
He continued: “Whilst we have an Agenda to ensure that we cover key areas such as Business Updates, Financial Overviews and Company Wide Promotions, we are committed to encouraging honest and transparent communications through all sectors of the business. When Town Hall style events are delivered in an authentic way they can be transformational making colleagues feel heard and valued. We very much see the forum as a way of connecting the business with the people that make the business work and that make it successful. Team members don’t simply attend Town Hall meetings they participate in them fully and are encouraged to provide opinions insights via the interactive Q&A. When everything aligns the outcomes can be really significant.”
The Town Hall concept is the latest Game Nation development to take place in the opening months of 2025 and follows the appointments of Eric Howell as Compliance and Audit Director and Andy Sessions as Head of Slots, Product and Content. Company-wide initiatives over the period have included the roll-out of the new Game Nation uniforms across the estate, the hiring of hospitality guru and trainer Andrew Kemsley, the launch of world class SR training and the celebration of International Women’s Day.
