Godden Gaming resubmits plan for Bridgwater venue

Godden Gaming has resubmitted plans to convert a former WHSmith in Bridgwater into a new 24-hour gaming centre, after amending the initial proposal to incorporate feedback from councillors.

Plans for the vacant Cornhill unit had first been lodged in January before being withdrawn in March following an objection by Bridgwater Town Council, with the new application now highlighting the benefits the AGC will bring the area.

“We are pleased to resubmit our application to rejuvenate this prominent former retail unit as a Gaming Centre that will deliver jobs and large scale investment,” MD Jeremy Godden told the Bridgwater Mercury.

“We pride ourselves on providing a safe, comfortable and socially responsible venue for customers to enjoy their leisure time.”

In a cover letter, Godden Gaming said the venue would “enhance the vitality and viability of Bridgwater Town Centre whilst delivering additional jobs.”

“This is particularly important given the increasing number of vacant units within Bridgwater Town Centre and specifically the Primary Shopping Area.”

Despite the amended submission, Bridgwater Town Council planning chair Tim Mander maintained “the committee was not convinced that enough had been done to attract a business that would comply with the existing use class.”
