The private equity firm behind Haven Holidays is planning on selling the company in the early part of next year, according to Sky News.
PE juggernaut Blackstone acquired a controlling stake in Haven’s parent company Bourne Leisure in 2021, which also brought Bourne subsidiary company Warner Leisure Hotels beneath its umbrella.
Sky News cited an unnamed insider source as claiming that the sales agreement would trigger separate auctions for each of the respective Bourne businesses.
Since taking the helm at Bourne four years ago, Blackstone has installed separate chief executives at both Haven and Warner, a process of “operational and financial separation” that Sky’s insider has said will continue over the coming months.
Haven is one of the largest players in the UK’s domestic holiday park market: with 41 locations throughout the country.
2024 saw the company net record bookings, with annual visitation up 13 per cent to 3.6 million and there is an air anticipation with a lucrative deal in place for 6 Wetherspoons pubs to be added to the holiday park offering.
But with Blackstone having sunk a whopping £550m into both the Warner and Haven portfolio since its acquisition, the short-term return from the duo will no doubt have proved disappointing: with Bourne’s pre-tax earnings for 2023 £166m in the red.
Meanwhile, Blackstone has yet to officially comment on any potential impending sale.
