High Score Arcade marked the opening of its latest venue in Newport with a tour for members of Flexible Options, a local community organisation which supports people with learning disabilities to achieve their ambitions.
Gareth Jones and Llewelyn Thomas visited the new venue in Chartist Tower on the city’s Upper Dock Street in order to interview director Aaron Gilbey ahead of the official opening on 9 August, as part of their “Gareth Investigates” project.
“Gilbey, who is leading the launch, said the opening will be full of colour and nostalgia,” reported the South Wales Argus, covering the visit.
“The arcade promises more than just retro games and flashing lights. It’s designed to be a welcoming space where young people can explore digital creativity, socialise, and feel part of something.”
Speaking to Jones and Thomas, Gilbey said: “We’re kicking things off with Mario and Luigi. They’re fun, familiar, and they represent what this arcade is about, imagination, play, and bringing people together.”
After the tour, Jones praised the arcade, telling The Argus: “It’s good for people to come here and have fun. I’m excited about anything that brings people to Newport. It can help Newport become a proper city, like Cardiff or Birmingham.”
